SCHOOLS

Imagine if it was possible to teach a young adult what they are truly capable of. Imagine if that person used that new-found knowledge of what they can do and applied it to the rest of their life. Imagine the possibilities that would open up for that person and the change they would bring to the World.

We believe that travel teaches us so much about the World around us. Tolerance, compassion and empathy for other communities and cultures are all benefits of visiting other countries. In addition to this travel builds self-confidence and leadership skills in young adults who start to explore the World for themselves.

The way we build our experiences allows students who travel to link classroom-based learning to real-life issues such as climate change, socio-economic pressures and other issues such as renewable energy and gender equality. Our experiences also follow the United Nation’s Global Goals to allow students to research deeper into their trip before they travel, with their teachers or independently.

Our service-based experiences link perfectly with school programs such as the Week Without Walls or International Baccalaureate programs. Many schools have engaged with us to link these curricula to our projects with huge success. Whatever the curriculum requirements, our projects are created to address real-world problems with meaningful, long term and sustainable solutions. They are also rigorously checked and updated to ensure that no host community is negatively affected by their existence. Checks are done regularly to ensure jobs are not taken away from local people, that cultural and religious sensitivities are addressed, and most importantly, our local hosts need and want the projects that are being implemented.

If a student chooses an adventure-based option we believe that they benefit from associating personal physical endeavour to positive results, learning that they are capable of more than they thought was possible, working with their peers in a team and connecting with nature to have a great affinity and respect for our natural world. Our experiences always aim to inspire the participant to achieve more, both for themselves, those around them and for the natural environment that benefits them on their journey. In addition, we link sustainability into the experience, to help students learn how to be a more responsible traveler and how to interact with their natural environment in a way that allows both the student and natural world to thrive together.

In some instances the adventurous journey and our delivery of the journey is enough to offer a highly impactful experience for students (and chaperones of course). In other instances our clients look to link the experience to academic qualifications such as the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. In this case, we work with our clients to empower students to take the lead on their expedition, plan and execute their itinerary and learn how to be self-sufficient in nature. At the same time we ensure safety security for all participants through a relatively hands-off approach to maintain the integrity of the program, but with safety protocols in place to ensure a successful and enjoyable expedition for all involved.

Whatever path a student walks down, rest assured that Mountain Quests takes safety and security very seriously and has a long proven track record of continued success in this area, that can be discussed more with our clients.

A picture speaks a thousand words

Take a look at this video to see how one of our clients enjoyed their time helping a local community we work with in Southern Nepal to build biogas for a family there. The project allows families to generate a sustainable source of energy to cook with. In addition wood no longer needs to be chopped down and burned, projecting the nearby national park and its endangered animals, as well as assisting those cooking by not forcing them to breath in smoke from burning wood.
