This long weekend getaway in Abu Dhabi is perfect for a family staycation. But this is one with a difference. Not only can you enjoy levels of hospitality that you are accustomed to from an experience in the UAE, but you can connect with nature in an authentic an meaningful way.
During the course of 3 days, you will connect with a global coral reef project called Reef Check. You will learn about the importance of reefs in the marine ecosystem, gather statistical data and submit it to a global scientific database that will be used to better monitor the health of coral reefs around the world.
In addition, you can expect lots of fun activities in the afternoons, such as stand up paddle boarding, snorkeling, kayaking and mangrove exploration.
Your evenings will be spent at the beautiful Bab Al Nojuom, where you can expect high end camping, great food and a beautiful place to relax in a quiet location at night.
This is a Staycation with Purpose - Not only will you have a great time in a stunning location, but you will come home with new skills and a new-found respect for your marine environment

The Itinerary
If you are not resident of Abu Dhabi, you will start your day by heading over to The Capital (covid restrictions in place - please be familiar with requirements or contact us for more information). A lunchtime meetup will see us all together, ready for a trip briefing and introduction session.
The first day will introduce Reef Check, teach you how to observe coral reefs and collect meaningful data, and how to process and upload it to relevant databases.
The early evening will be dedicated to fun and relaxation, where the kids (and parents if they so choose) can enjoy some watersports, and others can relax with a drink or some good food.
The evening will see us debriefing from the day, sharing some photos, enjoying a campfire and generally relaxing after our first day.
As this trip should also be relaxing, we won't be waking you up too early. A great morning breakfast will precede the most impactful day of the trip. Today you will be putting you newly-learned skills into action, collecting meaningful data for the Reef Check project.
You will spend the morning doing this, and if things go well, we may extend into part of the afternoon as well. By the early evening we will head back to "camp", wash up and enjoy a few afternoon activities.
The evening will be spent together as a group, at least for part of the time, sharing our learning outcomes, brainstorming new ways we can interact ethically with our marine environment, and taking away pledges that we will try to implement to live better with our local environment.
After a good night's rest, today we will complete our final project for the trip. Working on the prinicpals of "Project Aware" we will work together to clean up some of the beaches that are important for a healthy marine ecosystem and we will learn how to responsibly behave when enjoying the beaches of the UAE and the wider world.
During an early lunch we will have a debrief on the entire trip, issue certificates of completion for Reef Check and Project Aware and say goodbye to each other.
We sincerely hope that you learned a lot from your time with us, as well as had a lot of fun along the way.
