Explore the Musandam fjords and its associated marine environment

Go hiking and snorkeling directly from the dhow

This 3-day journey takes us to the stunning peninsular of Musandam, just over the border from the UAE, to the north. Over three days, you and your children will stay aboard a dhow boat, sailing through the fjords, whilst enjoying snorkeling, hiking, swimming in the clear waters, and learning about the marine ecosystem where fish and marine mammals call home.

For those of you who dive, for an additional cost you can also dive off the dhow, lead by PADI-qualified instructors

An amazing 3 days away from the city, you and your family will feel like you are in a totally different place, whilst only needing to travel a couple of hours from home. A truly relaxing disconnect from the frenetic pace of urban life.

 The Itinerary

A 1.5 to 2-hour drive will see you arrive at the border checkpoint into the Dibba side of Musandam at around 11am, where after formalities you will cross and meet our team at Dibba port. From here we'll set sail on our dhow, heading north along the stunning coastline, with dramatic rock formations and hidden beaches dotted along the way.

We plan to arrive at our anchorage by the late afternoon, where there will be the opportunity to snorkel, check out some of the local reefs and generally relax.

Dinner will be held on the dhow, and followed by evening stargazing and story-telling. Our guides will also be on-hand to begin some of the background work on Fish ID for tomorrow.

After a relaxed dhow breakfast, we'll disembark to head out on a hike before the weather gets too warm. Weather and time-permitting, we'll reach a high-point to get beautiful views of Musandam and the Indian Ocean as our reward for our hard work.

After returning to the dhow, having lunch and freshening up, we'll spend the afternoon working on our Fish ID project, learning to identify fish species and recording data. This activity is a lot of fun, but also helps you learn about the marine environment in our back yard, and assists in collecting data for scientists researching the waters of the region.

Depending on when we finish, we'll have some time to relax in the water or on a nearby cove beach, before dinner and a well-deserved rest.

Tonight we may even get the opportunity to camp on the beach, depending on weather and our anchorage location.

Our final day in this wonderful location, we will fit in one last time in the water, either to enjoy ourselves, or to continue our Fish ID project, depending on your preference. After a few hours we'll need to set sail for one last time, so that we can be back to port by the mid afternoon. From here we say our goodbyes, so you can get home at a reasonable hour.

It's been a pleasure.

What To Expect

FOOD - All meals are included in this adventure, prepared by the team on the dhow. You can expect a variety of food, including varied breakfasts, barbecue style food, and trusted favourites such as burgers, pizzas and salads. Allergies can be managed, but we need to be aware of them in advance of the trip.

ACCOMMODATION - Accommodation will be on the Dhow, where you will sleep on the top deck, shaded at all times. It is a basic affair, but comfortable and serene. Showers and bathroom facilities are available on board. If we camp, we have tents for everyone to sleep individually, but in a group on the beach, with food served at the campsite. The best way to view things is that accommodation and facilities are basic, but give you everything you need for 2 nights away.

GEAR - This trip does not require anything specific, out of the ordinary from what you already own. The only exception may be a sleeping bag, which is widely available to buy in the UAE. We will provide a full kist list upon booking, but you don’t need to overly worry.

HEALTH AND SAFETY - All covid safety protocols will be adhered to on this trip, and our staff are all trained in the activities they administer, as well as first aid related to the activities you will be doing. Health facilities are basic and may require some traveling to get to. Speed boats are available for rapid evacuation should it be required.
