Why this tour?

Mohare Danda is very special in that you will be trekking in an area with a strong environmental and social cohesion ethos. On this stunning 8-day trek the profits generated from your time there will be shared across the villages you stay in, benefitting more people, and a portion will be invested into local schools and hospitals. This is not charity, but a pact amongst the local people to ensure revenues are used most effectively. In addition, the area is making a big effort to become carbon neutral, to maintain the area’s natural beauty

Itinerary

Day One – Fly to Kathmandu

Fly to Kathmandu. Our Mountain Quests team will meet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel. Today is a free day to rest from your flight, settle in, check your gear and perhaps some last minute shopping while in the Capital for your upcoming trek. In the evening we’ll have a group briefing for the trip, where we can all meet each other and discuss the trek in detail.

Day Two - Fly to Pokhara and drive to Beni - trek to Benskharka

After breakfast at the hotel we will head to the domestic airport to catch a flight to Pokhara. The flight will take about 30 minutes, and if the weather is clear you will see incredible views of the Himalayas all the way. After landing and collecting our bags we will meet up with our minibus transportation, which will take us on a 4 hour journey to Beni. From here your trek will begin! And this is a trek with a difference. You will be in an area very rarely visited by tourists. You’ll integrate completely with the locals, even sleeping in their homes along the route. Today you’ll start with a short trek to Galeshwar before stopping for lunch. After you’ve re-fueled you’ll be off to Benskharka, a 3 hour trek (1526m) – You’ll stay here for the night and be welcomed into the villagers’ own homes for the night.

Day Three – Benskharka to Nangi

After a good breakfast at the village dining hall, you’ll be off on a 4 hour trek before stopping for lunch. Another 3 to 4 hours walking after lunch will bring you to Nangi village at 2300m where you’ll stay the night. Nangi is a busy village with local industries in mushroom farming and paper making. If you have the energy then you can see some of these processes for yourself once you arrive.

Day Four – Nangi to Mohare Danda

After breakfast you'll hit the trail again to reach Mohare Danda. A 7 hour day sees us walk through Rhododendron forests until lunch, when we break out of the forest and on the high mountain grasslands (khaka). During lunch we'll have great views into the valley into Pokhara, After lunch we'll be walking above the forest and once we hike over a major hill we'll start to see the stunning Annapurna mountain range in front of us. By the time we reach Mohare Danda we will have unobstructed panoramic views of the mountains, as long as the weather is clear.

Day Five – Mohare Danda to Khibang

Today is an exciting one. We will wake up just before sunrise and head out of the community lodge to watch sunrise over the Himalayas. This is a spectacular sight and one that you'll remember for a long time. After sunrise we'll have breakfast and head down from Mohare, along a stunning ridge where we can see Annapurna South on our right and Dhaulagiri on our left. After about 6 hours we will arrive in Khibang (2260m), for a much easier day than the previous ones. You’ll stay at another villager’s home and get a good dinner in the community dining hall. Take in all the sights, sounds and tranquility and enjoy your penultimate night in the mountains.

Day Six - Khibang to Tikot

After a good breakfast we will start our 6 hour journey down to Tikot. Today is relatively flat (in Nepal Himalayan terms), and depending on how fast we trek we will either have lunch along the trail or when we arrive in Tikot. Once we arrive at the guesthouse in Tikot we will relax and enjoy our final night in the mountains, away from cars, crowds and noise.

Day Seven – Tikot to Pokhara

Our last day's trekking will take about 4 hours to reach the end of the trail at BAISARI, where our private CAR will be waiting for us. Due to the condition of the road in the area we will drive to Beni, our start point, where we will transfer into a minibus which will take us all the way back to Pokhara. We'll arrive at our hotel in the late afternoon, which gives us time to wash up, organise some clean clothes and get ready to head out for a relaxing evening. The night is yours to explore Pokhara, do some shopping or relax in one of the many bars or cafes.

Day Eight – Fly to Kathmandu, Depart

This morning after breakfast we transfer to the Pokhara airport, from here we fly to Kathmandu. On landing we will transfer you to the tourist hub of town, Thamel, where you can have something to eat, hit the shops or just take in life on the street as you enjoy a drink on a café terrace. When it is time to go for your homeward flight we will transfer you to the international airport and bid your farewell, for now…we hope to see you again soon in the Himalayas!
